Farallon Rec
Navigation & Pacific coast Weather
The winter seminar: charts, compasses, and why the wind does that.
The off-season course for people who got hooked. We meet in the warming house in February — woodstove going, lake frozen twenty inches deep outside the window — and cover the theory there's no time for in summer: reading a chart and a topo, dead reckoning for the fog, the anatomy of a California cold front, and planning a Tomales Bay route you'll actually paddle in July.
Graduates get first registration priority for the summer's guided Tomales trips.
What we cover
- Chart & map reading
- Compass and dead reckoning
